Conscious sedation is modern dentistry that lets patients have a relaxing and comfortable dental visit. Besides patient comfort, sedation allows the doctors to accomplish the work of several appointments in just one visit.
While the goal of general anesthesia is for the patient to sleep, in dentistry it is much more common to use conscious sedation, where the patient is soothed and comfortable, yet still awake. The sedation feels so relaxing and peaceful that the patient will not notice the passing of time and may feel like they have fallen asleep. Many of the medications used in conscious sedation have an amnesiac effect as well, leaving patients with little to no memory of their dental appointment.
At Drs. Minutello's office patients have the option of oral conscious sedation or IV conscious sedation for their comfort.
